Homage

These photographs are inspired by various artists that have influenced my photography over the past years. The following artists are those that have inspired all of the images in this series.

Donald Sultan (tarwall), Wayne Thiebaud (twelve), Edward Hooper (Cabo), Jim Dine (Tools), Jean McEwen(stripe), Walter Tandy Murch (clock parts), Mark Tobey (window).

There are various reasons for their influence on my work, many deal with Color, composition, textures, design. These artists encouraged me to explore and search for my own voice, as a creative image-‐maker.

Donald Sultan-‐ American artist who worked mostly with Industrial materials, such as tar, enamel, spackle and vinyl tiles on large sheets of plywood.

Wayne Thiebaud-‐ American painter widely known for his colorful works depicting commonplace objects such as pies, ice cream cones, pastries and fruits and vegetables using a blue shadow effect.

Edward Hooper-‐ American painter whose renderings reflected his personal vision of modern American life. This image was inspired by Hooper painting ‘Rooms by the Sea

1951….

Jim Dine -- An American painter, graphic artist, sculptor and poet who emerged during the Pop art period.

In 1970 Jim’s work included a series on ‘Tools” He was influence as a young man working in his family owned hardware store in Cincinnati, ‘To him tools represent a connection to the mythology of art and to the process of Human Creativity’.

Jean McEwen -‐ Canadian painter known for his evocative abstractions that focused on light, gesture and subtle color relationships

Walter Tandy Murch -‐ Canadian painter who attended OCA studying under Arthur Lismer a member of the Group of Seven whose still life painting of machine parts, brick fragments, clock parts and broken dolls, light bulbs are an unusual combination of realism and abstraction

Mark Tobey -‐ An American painter. His densely structured compositions, inspired by Asian calligraphy, resemble Abstract expressionism, although the motives for his compositions differ philosophically from most Abstract Expressionist painter.

All of the images are Tri-‐Color Gum over Palladium, printed on art paper…
